The East Harptree Environment Group (EHEG) was formed in 2018 after the village survey showed
that local green spaces and the environment are very important to residents. EHEG’s aim is to
increase awareness and knowledge of habitats for wildlife in the village by a newsletter and by
arranging walks, talks and a series of citizen science projects. The records from these projects are
contributing to a village wildlife map. The group is working with the parish council on its plans to
improve the green infrastructure of the parish.
The Environment Groups first talk of 2021 was a fascinating and insightful look at the Science behind increasing the biodiversity in our gardens and public spaces from Somerset Wildlife Trusts Gardening for wildlife group, Penny Richards. The slides from Penny’s talk can be downloaded from this link
East Harptree Parish Butterfly Survey 2021 runs from the beginning of April to the end of September. Please record the maximum number of each species you see at any one time during each week, holidays away excepted. The Butterfly Conservation web site https://butterfly-conservation.org/uk-butterflies/a-to-z is a useful identification guide, and the flight times from this website for each butterfly are shaded on the forms. The two forms can be downloaded from the links below;
