The Intrepid Marianne North
A Remarkable Victorian Botanical Artist
A talk by Gina Merrett-Smith.
If you have been to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, you may have visited one of Kew’s treasures, The Marianne North Gallery. Those who have a passion for art can lose themselves in the amazing array of oil paintings in the gallery.
These paintings of plants growing in situ were completed by one intrepid Victorian lady, Marianne North, during nearly 14 years of solo travel around the world.
Gina’s digital presentation uses some of these paintings to illustrate Marianne’s fascinating life story as a biologist and botanical artist.
Visitors are very welcome to this event at £3 a head. Book in advance but pay on the night.
