Local place names
After several enjoyable summer outings, The Harptrees History Society is all set to resume its autumn/ winter series of meetings at West Harptree Memorial Hall, 7pm for 7.30pm.
These gatherings, which cover a variety of subjects over the season, are always popular.
Place-names are of consuming interest to many people. On Wednesday September 28th Prof Richard Coates will tell us about the history and structure of English place-names in general, focusing down on Somerset and then in even more detail on the Harptrees, using the nineteenth century tithe map.
Chairs will be socially distanced, which restricts numbers, so both members and visitors do need to book seats in advance. Visitors are welcome at £3, payable on the night.
Booking opens 1st September.
Please email;info@harptreeshistorysociety.org with subject line ‘Sept 22’.
